The story of Cain and Abel

This is the first part of a series illustrating the bloodthirsty nature of the Abrahamic god, who is referred to as Yahweh by Jews and Christians, and Allah by Muslims.

When did the first murder of another human being take place?  Christians will tell you the first murder was that of one of the sons of Adam and Eve, by his own brother’s hand.  I’m talking about the story of Cain and Abel.

#Christianity Myths: Blood Lust of the abrahamic god

The story goes:

”Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4:2-7)

It’s not quite clear what Cain did wrong.  He offered what he grew, but Yahweh for some reason did not accept it.  The story continues:

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him”. (Genesis 4:8)

Cain, after murdering his brother Abel

It is implied that Cain was jealous of this god Yahweh showing favor to his brother’s offering.  Since Abel raised livestock, meaning, sheep, goats or both, this means Abel had to kill some of the animals he raised to please this god.  Whereas Cain grew fruits and vegetables, and this was not enough to please this god.  So this god drove Cain to jealousy, which led to him committing a grievous offense towards his own brother.  This god Yahweh is a bloodthirsty god, and is only happy with a blood sacrifice. For many centuries, the Jewish people sacrificed animals. Jesus’ death on the cross was to be the final blood sacrifice supposedly, but this god Yahweh has helped to drive many Christians into becoming martyrs, or killing themselves, or murdering others in his name.  Much has been written about the bloody history of the forcible conversion of all of Europe to Christianity, including on the Mission Kaali website with this article, among others

When someone reads this story, be they Christian or non-Christian, they feel very uncomfortable.  That is understandable.  How can a god that is supposedly loving and all-knowing allow for a murder to take place? Christians will then resort to other ways to explain away such a vile story.  For example, I received this reply on Twitter:

Frankly, it is a cop out, and any discerning person can see through it.

Let us contrast this to what Sri Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita:

पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति |
तदहं भक्त्युपहृतमश्नामि प्रयतात्मन: || 26||

patraṁ puṣhpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ yo me bhaktyā prayachchhati
tadahaṁ bhaktyupahṛitam aśhnāmi prayatātmanaḥ

If one offers to Me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or even water, I delightfully partake of that article offered with love by My devotee in pure consciousness. (BG 9:26)

Different, more harmonious worldview from the Abrahamic religions. All that is asked is that you offer what you have with the right intentions.  No need to bloodlet as Abel had to do with the firstborn of his flock.
