Captain Amrinder Singh who was the former Chief Minister of Punjab is ready and announced to contest the Punjab Assembly elections which are going to be held in April 2022 from his stronghold constituency Patiala.

A post of Facebook page of ‘Punjab Da Captain’ page quoted the former Congress leader saying, “Main patiala se hi chunav ladunga. Patiala 400 saal se hamare saath raha hai aur main sidhu ki khatir unhein chodne wala nahi hun”. (I will contest the polls from Patiala alone. Patiala has been with us for over 400 years now. I am not going to desert it for Navjot Singh Sidhu). Patiala has always been strong hold of captain Amrinder Singh and legacy of his royal family also comes complementary. Captain Amrinder Singh won 2017 assembly elections from the same constituency of Patiala from a very big margin of 52,407 votes. His wife has also served as MLA from Patiala between 2014 to 2017.

Few months ago, the country witnessed a Punjab political crisis or might say a Punjab Congress Crisis to be precise. Tussle between Navjot Singh Sidhu and former chief minister of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh is not coming at a stop. Around a month ago, the former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh submitted his resignation from the Chief Ministerial post and in his place Charanjit Singh Channi was being made the new Chief Minister of Punjab.

Navjot Singh Sidhu also on 28th September around 3 pm took on to Twitter posting his resignation letter which wrote “Smt Sonia Gandhi, the collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress.”
