Abdul Khaliq who is a congress MP from Barpeta, Assam recently gave a statement that Mughals were the ones who united India into one. It is because of them that India got a shape, so he is proud of the Mughals.

Abdul Khaliq gave this comment in a conversation with ANI. He said, “The concept of India is a product of the Mughals. The Mughals gave the name of Hindustan by collecting the small kingdom which was India. That’s why I am proud of the Mughals. I am not a Mughal descendant. But, yes the Mughals had shaped India. The Mughals named it Hindustan.”

When asked about the Mughal attack in Assam, Khaliq said “The Mughals definitely attacked Assam. But this did not happen on an individual level. At that time the Mughals were under the rule of Hindustan. He was the king here. Being the king, they attacked Assam. Our Ahom army defeated them. But at that time Assam was a free nation. Hindustan was another nation. So at that time the fight was not between Mughal and Ahom. The battle was between India and Assam. But what is Assam now is an integral part of India. He added “As far as my area is concerned. It has 10 assembly constituencies. There were 7 Ahom kingdoms in it. Three are from the other samjya. Some of these were also occupied by the Mughals.

Lashing out at BJP, Abdul Khaliq said, “BJP people always spread hatred – that is their job. Amit Shah said that we will rewrite history. That is, history will be rewritten as it is. What will happen to him after all? Hindustan is the name given to the Mughals only. You go into history, you will find the same people. Congress MP also gave his opinion about Shyam Prasad Mukherjee that he used to talk of Akhand Bharat but he divided Bengal, is this the theory of Akhand Bharat. If you wanted a united India, Bengal should not have been divided. According to Khalik, Bahadur Shah Zafar was the first to lead in the freedom struggle.
