In Pakistan’s Punjab province, the majority of gas stations ran out of fuel during a severe economic crisis, impacting daily life for many. In rural areas where pumps have been without supply for more than a month, the situation is dreadful, according to Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

Punjab still lacks fuel despite assurances that there is a sufficient supply and warnings from the government to crack down on hoarders. Amid this massive news coming from Pakistan, some bizarre incidences have come to notice of local journalists.

A bizarre incident has come to light in Pakistan’s Punjab’s Lahore, where electricity meters are being stolen in bright daylight. The frenzy is not that the meters are stolen in broad daylight, but the thieves are posting there WhatsApp number with a note that they can return the meter after a conversation.  And when the victim or the owner of the meter texts on that particular number, then the thief talks to them and pledges that he is an honest thief, who is ready to pay back the meter on a payment of a certain amount.

Thieves in Lahore are stealing electricity meters in broad daylight and pasting there WhatsApp numbers for the owner to converse with them. After the owner calls the thief, he guarantees that their meter is safe and will be given back anyway but after a certain amount is paid. The thief even goes on an extent to guarantee that he has done numerous thefts before and has returned their meter with honesty.

It’s absurd that the thief swears to be truthful and promises to return the meter safely. The schools and other educational institutions in Lahore deal with incidents of this nature. Surprisingly, when the victim went to the police to file a complaint, with undoubtedly all the evidence at their disposal, the police showed no interest in taking the case, and their only response was to stay out of the situation.

Since the government was less interested in creating jobs and more interested in settling terrorists on their territory, Pakistan has evolved from being known as a financially corrupt country to one that is morally corrupt as well. While local Pakistanis are facing this kind of incidences on daily basis, the PM Sharif wants to serve Turkiye after the massive earthquake. The same Pakistani awaam fails to understand if nation would have been interested in creating jobs then fighting for Ummah, the story would have been different.
