In the midst of the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra, questions have been raised on the role of the Deputy Speaker in the Supreme Court. During the hearing of the application filed by the Eknath Shinde faction against the disqualification notice of 15 MLAs, the Supreme Court made a strong comment on the role of the Deputy Speaker. The court said that if the rebel MLAs had moved a no-confidence motion against him, then how was the notice issued to him. Justice Surya Kant questioned how the deputy speaker himself became a judge on the application filed against him. On this, advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for the Deputy Speaker, said that the notice against him was sent through an unverified email.

Now the Supreme Court has ordered the Deputy Speaker to file an affidavit on this matter. The Supreme Court asked advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for the Deputy Speaker, that if the notice was received from the MLAs, then why was it dismissed. The Supreme Court made a stern remark that how he himself heard the case against him and himself became a judge. Along with this, the court has issued a notice to the deputy speaker and sought his reply. At the same time, the Supreme Court has also issued notices to Maharashtra Police, Shiv Sena Legislature Party’s new leader Ajay Chaudhary and Sunil Prabhu, who has been appointed as the Chief Whip.

Deputy Speaker will reply in 5 days, then rebels will reply in 3 days

Along with this, the Supreme Court has also issued notice to the Central Government and asked what the rules of Parliament say in such matters. The court has asked all the parties to respond to the notice within 5 days. Not only this, after receiving the reply of the notice from these parties, the Eknath Shinde faction has been ordered to respond to it within three days. Not only this, the court has said that now the next hearing will be held on July 11 after the summer vacations.

Eknath’s lawyer said – how did the majority decide in Guwahati

During the hearing of the case, the lawyer of Eknath Shinde faction said that most of the party MLAs are in Guwahati. In such a situation, how to disqualify him, the deputy speaker issued a disqualification notice. The case of Arunachal Pradesh was also mentioned during the hearing of the case. The lawyer said that whenever the speaker has violated his rights, the Supreme Court has given its order. The Eknath Shinde faction said that first the position of the deputy speaker should be decided. Only after that any action taken on their behalf can be discussed.
