Recently, the newly appointed CM of Uttarakhand, Tirath Singh Rawat had commented on children, especially Girls wearing cut jeans. Rawat then went on to describe the attire of a woman who sat next to him on a flight. He described her as wearing boots, jeans ripped at the knees, bangles in her hands and with two children travelling with her. He also said she runs an NGO, goes out in society and has two children and wondered what values she would give them.

This comment is a wrong comment and tarnishes the image of the Hindu organizations, and the anti Hindu elements will use such comments to tarnish the image of institutions like BJP, RSS, VHP etc. I would make the below points.

  1. Hindu society has always been liberal and open to changes.
  2. The dresses worn by Hindus have changed significantly over last several millennia. Traditionally, Hindu women wore less clothes, the clothing increased only after the barbaric Islamic invasions. Hindu religion gives lot of liberty to people to choose their own dress. Unlike Islam, Bhagwat Gita doesn’t say what to wear and what not to wear.
  3. Values are subjective and could be different across persons, countries, societies and cultures.
  4. Tirath Singh Rawat is the CM and CM represents the entire populace of the state and is a powerful constitutional position. It is important to keep your personal likes and dislikes hidden from public when working as CM.
  5. Such statements will be used by Anti-India and pro-corrupt forces to defame BJP/RSS among the youth who wear such clothes, so that BJP’s political clout is reduced.
  6. Such statements have been used in the past to project BJP/RSS as radical and fundamentalist organizations in international media which have indeed created troubles.
  7. BJP/RSS are the only hope for the Hindu society to revive. If such forces defame BJP/RSS, then the chance of Hindu revival would be lost.

It is important within any religion to keep the fundamentalist and radical elements in check. They cause more harm than good. What is the problem with Islam? Why Islam is in trouble? The reason is simple, they are unable to control the fundamentalist elements in their religion. Hindus should not repeat the same mistake.

This criticism should be taken in right perspective.
