On Tuesday, May 24, three miscreants assassinated the BJP’s minority wing chief in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The gang leapt into two four-wheelers and fled the scene before Balakrishnan, Balachandar’s PSO could return.
The assassination of yet another BJP official has raised severe concerns about the law and order situation in the city.
Radhakrishnan, a BJP functionary, and his wife, Renuka, were previously attacked by PFI terrorists.
Balachandran’s murder has sparked severe law and order concerns in Chennai since a small-time banker was publicly slashed to death in a busy traffic crossroads.
The opposition leader, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, also criticised the law and order situation, claiming that Chennai has turned into a “murder metropolis,” with 18 killings in the last 20 days.

Radhakrishnan is a Kanyakumari district resident from Panangalmukkai, near Pudukkadai. He and his wife Renuka were on their way to Erumbukaadu’s office. When they were passing through Thingalnagar near Meykkodu on their motorcycle, they were stopped by a four-member gang on two bikes. With iron rods, the mob attacked them. The incident left Radhakrishnan with severe injuries and fractures in his legs and hands. In addition to threatening their lives, the group assaulted his wife. People nearby heard their cries and brought them to a private hospital. The gang of four fled the scene.
