Ales Bialiatski, a Belarusian human rights activist, Memorial, a Russian human rights organization, and Center for Civil Liberties, a Ukrainian human rights organization, were jointly named the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winners for their work to gather evidence of human rights violations earlier on Thursday.
Mohammed Zubair and Pratik Sinha, the founders of the fake news portal that goes by the name of the “fact-checking” website Alt News, were widely believed to be among the candidates for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize prior to the announcement of the 2022 recipient. TIME magazine article written by Sanya Mansoor named some of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize nominees, including Zubair and Pratik Sinha of Alt News.
Since Mohammed Zubair and Pratik Sinha, the creator of the propaganda website Alt News, were named as shortlisted candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday, October 5, social media has been flooded with memes and startling reactions. The article written by Sanya Mansoor stated, “Journalists Pratik Sinha and Mohammed Zubair, co-founders of Indian fact-checking website AltNews, have relentlessly been battling misinformation in India, where the Hindu nationalist BJP party has been accused of frequently stoking discrimination against Muslims. Sinha and Zubair have methodologically debunked rumors and fake news circulating on social media and called out hate speech.”
Everyone was perplexed by their inclusion because the only noteworthy achievements of Mohammed Zubair and Pratik Sinha, the creator of Alt News, this year were inciting killings across the nation by organizing a lynch mob against Nupur Sharma and anybody who supported her. Zubair was also detained for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Following TIME’s lead, leftist media sites in India, including NDTV and The Wire, repeated the claim that the founders of Alt News are this year’s nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize. Even after mentioning TIME, NDTV went on to reveal that Zubair and Sinha are among the 343 nominees up for the prize this year. Although the TIME article explicitly states that the data was sourced from Reuters, Zubair and Sinha are not listed as nominees in Reuters.
Time reporter Sanya Mansoor is commonly known for generalizing crimes by Muslims and spitting venom against Hindus. Even in the brutal beheading of tailor Kanahiya Lal, Sanya Mansoor shifted the blame on Hindutva stating that the Hindu tailor had provoked the anger of the Islamists by endorsing the “derogatory remarks” of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
A horrible act of Islamist terrorism was utilized by media reporter Sanya Mansoor to make a case against the Hindu community. She opined that Hindus have ‘rightfully’ incurred the hatred of Islamists as a result of their words and deeds.
The terror carried out by Islamists in India has claimed many victims before Kanhaiya Lal. Hindus must continue their online advocacy in light of the situation.
