Srinagar:  The 90 years old Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Pro-Pakistani, on Monday resigned from chairman of All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC). In his 48 seconds audio message he conveyed his resignation and BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav also tweeted the message about Mr. Geelani’s resignation. In his audio message, he said: “Cited the current situation in Hurriyat forum he wanted to distance himself and resigned from the chairmanship of Conference”.

There are lot of speculations in the valley that the age factor forces Geelani to quit Hurriyat Conference. That could be one of the reason behind his resignation but the most compelling reason which forced Geelani to go against his wish of quitting Hurriyat is none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Geelani has been under house arrest since August 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated. After this strong and bold decision of PM Modi, Geelani and his Hurriyat unable to create unrest in the valley via their protests. There has been no curfew, strike and ‘Bandh’ by Pro-Pakistani Hurriyat conference. Only due to security reasons, Valley was shut down and even during that complete bandh there were very minimal deaths of civilians as compared to earlier shut downs in the valley. In Short, the propaganda of Hurriyat Conference has been complete busted and stopped since August 2019. As per media reports, that Pakistani leaders are disappointed with Geelani’s inaction due to no action of Hurriyat against Indian govt.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been freezing all foreign accounts since 2014 which were providing funds to Hurriyat to spread propaganda and stone pelting at Army Jawans. So under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi:

  • No funding from foreign accounts to Hurriyat.
  • No help from Pakistan, as their sources are blocked by Indian security forces.
  • No bandhs. No Shut downs. No Stone pelting at Army Jawans after abrogation of article 370.
  • All leaders are house arrest.
  • All sources are dried out.
  • Indian Army eliminating Terrorists from the valley. A day before yesterday, the IGP of J&K informed to media that there is no presence of Hizbul Mujahideen Terrorist in Tral area and this happened first time since 1989.

All above reasons have compelled Geelani to distance himself from Hurriyat and resigned from chairmanship of APHC.

“After Geelani’s stepping down, his close aide Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai had taken over as chairman of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH). Sehrai’s son Junaid Sehrai, who was an MBA pass out and joined Hizbul Mujahideen in 2018, was killed in a gunfight with security forces in downtown Nawa Kadal area of Srinagar last month. Geelani had formed TeH in 2004 after having differences with his parent organisation, Jamaat-e-Islami and since 2004 he was heading the organization”, reported by Indian Express.
