Till the next hearing, the Supreme Court had stayed the order of Allahabad High Court to conduct carbon dating of Shivling which was found inside the Gyanvapi Mosque. On 19th of May, Supreme Court ordered the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to not conduct carbon dating of the Shivling till the next hearing on the matter.
Chief Justice of India Chandrachud while staying the High court orders said “One has to tread carefully in these matters.” The bench put a hold on the Allahabad HC’s order that had allowed a scientific investigation to ascertain whether the structure is a ‘Shivling’ or a fountain.” The Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government have both agreed for adjourning the proposed scientific survey of ‘Shivling’ for the time being. It must be noted that on 12th of May Allahabad High Court gave the orders for Carbon dating of Shivling which was found inside the mosque.
