यदा यदा ही धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत I
अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानम सृज्याहम II

Whenever, O Bharat, righteousness (dharm) declines
and unrighteousness is rampant,
I manifest myself.

“History is written by the victors”, the famous words often attributed to a British politician though it is unclear who exactly said them. Sadly, as layers of truth emerge, one realises the stark tragedy of these words and their impact on generations that follow.

When history is turned into legend and mythology, evidence buried and truth ignored, indology becomes a word only familiar within academic circles. Research itself becomes reserved for select few; never allowed to be challenged. Oft chance there might be opportunities when a layer emerges that does’t exactly tally with what we have grown up hearing, learning. As quickly as this doubt emerges, we are trained to quieten it lest we upset the historian and the scholar.

I was recently in Delhi and decided to go over to watch the sound and light show at Old Fort with a friend, who is a keen history student. As we made ourselves comfortable amidst the handful who turned up to view the screening, I looked around to see just who came to watch this show. Most people around us were foreigners and expats. The show began and the underlying theme was Delhi and the story of its lovers. One would think this is straight out of a romantic bollywood flick but in reality, what the film makers have tried to show are invaders of Delhi and those who caused blood and gore. To then qualify them as ‘lovers of Delhi’ unsettled me and made me squeamish. I was shocked to read the end titles to see that this was a Government of India sponsored film!

My friend, gave me a knowing smile as though to say, “best to see it to believe it!”

A number of such experiences would leave me feeling helpless, distraught, particularly as I live in the UK and twisting of facts is the pass time of many lawmakers and media houses. Story telling is an art!

As I make sense of years of content that does not add up, I come across a thread by a social media handle called “True Indology” calling out one such British propagandist.

True Indology is an anonymous twitter handle of an Indologist who emerged over the last 2-3 years and took the social media by storm. Posting content actively on social media, responding to almost all the queries, True Indology feels like an army of researchers tirelessly highlighting facts twisted over the years.

But who exactly is True Indology?

A question many have asked over and over again. The closest this anonymous person came to disclosing was an article published in Swarajya magazine, titled, “This Is True Indology Here, And This Is What I Have To Say”

True Indology reflects the anger of an ordinary Hindu, who for years, often generations has been subject to misinformation and lies. It is no less a revolution; a fact finding mission that is unapologetic, uninhibited and focused. Nothing and nobody fazes them. You try to suppress their voice and they emerge stronger, more forceful.

Many more readers of the social media threads have begun to question. A renaissance of sorts is now being experienced by an average Hindu with a quest for truth, of knowledge. The more you read, the less you know. Then there is a desire to find out more and more. A learning community is born and is spreading like wild fire.

So many Hindus today, angry at the injustice and perversion relate actively to Indology, the true kind!

Take this platform for instance – Kreately.in where everyday people write passionately about topics they feel strongly about. Ranging from science to politics to history, there is something for everyone. I wonder why True Indology isn’t here yet?

The short snippets of nuggets they share on twitter are often blocked. The harassment of being blocked and then to run a campaign to unblock takes away precious time and energy from this Hindu Warrior. Why not move to a space that doesn’t suffocate your voice?

Truth must be told. Indology understood, truthfully.
