Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project in New Delhi. With the commencement of Pragati Maidan Tunnel Project, the traffic load on other roads including ITO will also be reduced by 20 percent. On this occasion, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal told how the project progressed despite the Delhi government’s refusal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on completing it. Piyush Goyal said that PM Modi after seeing the planning of the tunnel in the beginning and its reportSaid that a detailed project should be prepared on this. He said that it should be made such that the people of Delhi get maximum benefit. Piyush Goyal told how the project progressed despite the Delhi government’s denial.

Piyush Goyal said that it is unfortunate that the Delhi government had to contribute only 20 percent of the entire fund for this project, but that too was refused. Many letters were sent by ITPO to the Delhi government but the state government denied that we would not give the money. When this matter reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that the project will not get stuck and the central government will give 100 percent money.

Piyush Goyal said that the Prime Minister paid special attention to this entire project. Piyush Goyal, citing the TERI report, said how this tunnel will affect people’s lives. Quoting 2017 TERI estimate, he said that one lakh 14 thousand used to come in vehicles in the entire area. The number is even higher in 2022. The completion of this project is the biggest benefit in terms of pollution. Its benefit is equivalent to planting 5 lakh trees. Carbon dioxide will not spread as much as it spreads.

Under this project, there will be no need to stop at the traffic signal on Mathura Road. To remove these signals, 4 underpasses have been made to make the signal free from ITO to DPS school. The first underpass has been built near DPS School, second near Sunder Nagar, third near National Sports Club and fourth near Purana Qila. If one wants to go from ITO to Bhogal, he can go straight. After the construction of the underpass, all the traffic signals from Mathura Road ITO to DPS School will be removed. The fifth underpass has been built on Bhairon Marg, Ring Road T-junction and the sixth underpass on Ring Road. The underpass on Ring Road will be used for commuting from Bhairon Marg-Ring Road T-junction towards Sarai Kale Khan or Kashmere Gate Bus Stand.
