Republican Andy Levin, who is often heard propagating an anti-India narrative, especially in matters of Kasmir, has been ousted from the Congress in Michigan. Centrist U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens defeated colleague U.S. Republican Andy Levin in a contest for the created congressional district in Oakland County, putting an end to the leftist side of the Democratic Party there.

In one of the most ferocious intraparty battles for a U.S. House seat in Michigan, Stevens, of Waterford, maintained a commanding 60 percent -40 percent lead over Levin, of Bloomfield Township, with nearly all of the Democratic primary votes in the new 11th Congressional District counted as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The three Republican U.S. House members who had reportedly supported Donald Trump’s impeachment due to the Jan. 6 uprising faced primary challenges from opponents backed by the outgoing president at the time of Stevens’ triumph.

Four of the ten chose not to seek reelection in the upcoming midterm elections. Rep. David Valadao of California overcame a fight from a fellow Republican in June and made it to the general election, while Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina lost to a challenger backed by Trump. Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming is preparing for a loss against a Trump-backed opponent in the primary on August 16.

In Missouri and Michigan, two members of the liberal “Squad” will face primary rivals on Tuesday. GOP voters in Arizona will decide whether to put a prominent QAnon figure forward for a congressional seat.

The biggest test yet for GOP incumbents who broke with Trump after a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to keep him in power are the primaries for Reps. Peter Meijer, Jaime Herrera Beutler, and Dan Newhouse. Trump have pledged retaliation against the 10 House Republicans who voted for impeachment notwithstanding their party affiliation.

Interestingly, Andy Levin is one of those Congressmen who have always voiced against India in matters of Kashmir. Various pieces in the American newspapers are written by Andy Levin that state how the Modi government is taking democracy away from India. In his 2019 column in the New York Times, Andy Levin stated that Narendra Modi, who is the current Prime Minister of India is taking the country away from democracy.

Not only this, The Congressman has often attended on the invitation of Indian American Muslim Council and given speeches against the majority of India. In one of the conferences, Levin was heard as saying, “I fear that many years later, India’s current leadership is backtracking on this legacy. Instead of expanding India’s historically robust democracy, its pluralism, and its famous tolerance, Prime Minister Modi’s legacy seems to be to undo or diminish this proud tradition. What’s happening in Kashmir is emblematic of these concerns. In 2019, Prime Minister Modi stripped the region of the privileged status it had held under India’s Constitution for 70 years.”

His obsession with Kashmir is unending. In April 2022, raised concern over human rights in Indian American Muslim Council and urged the US government to have a clear stance on the Kashmir issue. Meanwhile, India has always kept a serious stance on this matter stating that Kashmir is an integral part of India and no third party is required for mediation.
