The Indian High Commission in Britain has condemned the violence against the Indian community in the city of Leicester, England. The High Commission has also demanded prompt action on this matter and protection to the affected in these attacks.

In fact, in Leicester, Islamist side had vandalized the Hindu temple and threw the saffron flag above the temple.

The Indian High Commission in Britain said in a statement issued on Monday, “We strongly condemn the violence against the Indian community in the city of Leicester and the vandalism of a Hindu temple and destruction of the symbol.” We have taken this matter vigorously with the UK administration and have demanded immediate action against those involved in these attacks. We also call for protection to the Hindu victims of this attack.

 

What happened?

Unidentified Islamists men ransacked a Hindu temple in East Leicester and threw a saffron flag outside the temple.

In the video of the incident viral on social media, it can be seen that a Islamist man dressed in black climbs the temple building and takes off the saffron flag. This incident of vandalism in the temple was actually carried out in the midst of communal tension between Hindu and Muslim groups. In fact, after the India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match last month, tension between the two communities had increased.

According to media reports, since the India and Pakistan match on August 28, there was an atmosphere of tension between the two communities in the area. India defeated Pakistan in this match. After which the tension between the two sides increased after taunts and comments on each other. After this, a mob from Islamic side ransacked the temple.

Leicester Police has started an investigation into the matter. So far 15 people have been arrested in this case.
