Former CEO of Twitter and it’s co-founder Jack Dorsey during an interview on Monday with YouTube channel Breaking Points said “India, for example, was a country that had many requests around the farmers’ protests, around particular journalists that were critical of the government,”. Jack Dorsey stated that he received “many requests” from the Indian government to block accounts covering farmers’ protests and those critical of the government and also alleged that the platform was threatened of being shut down.

Reacting to this the BJP government categorised the statement made by Jack Dorsey as an outright lie. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union minister of state for IT and electronics, tweeted “This is an outright lie by Jack Dorsey, perhaps an attempt to brush out that very dubious period of Twitter’s history. Twitter under Dorsey and his team were in repeated and continuous violations of Indian law. As a matter of fact, they were in non-compliance with law repeatedly from 2020 to 2022 and it was only in June 2022 when they finally complied,”
