Why Arab nations are either silent or helping Israel in its effort to hammer Gaza. In fact the Arab world is bowing before Israel.
The reasons are below:
- Arab needs Israeli technology for defense, offense and down the line to get food and water.
- Hamas are propped up by their enemy – Shia Iran. So Israel by hammering Hamas is helping Sunni Arab nations.
- Israel is the most powerful country in the region, hence every one wants to remain in the good books of Israel.
The below are few examples how Arab nations are ramping up their relationship with Israel.
Saudi Arabia:
On September 7 2017, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited the Israel secretly and discussed with senior Israeli officials the idea of pushing forward regional peace.
Saudi Arabia’s ties to Israel run deeper than that. In October 2018, Saudi Arabia reportedly purchased over $250 million-worth of spy equipment from Israel. There are also talks for Israel to supply the Iron Dome defense system to Saudi to fend off any potential attacks from Shia Iran. Saudis are Sunnis and there is a big fault line between Shias and Sunnis.
UAE:
During hardline Israeli Minister of Culture Miri Regev’s visit, Israel’s national anthem, Hatikvah, was played for the first time in Abu Dhabi. In the same month, UAE Ambassador Yousef al Otaiba spoke at a summit in New York, alongside Yossi Cohen, director of Israel’s Mossad spy agency, and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al Jubeir.
UAE is also siding with Israel to ward off Iranian threat.
Egypt
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s Egypt maintained, “no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with it” — a rallying cry that most Arab countries would adhere to for decades. But not Egypt.
Today, Egypt and Israel share a close relationship. In coordination with Egyptian authorities, Israel regularly carries out airstrikes in northern Sinai.
Egypt’s top generals have worked closely with their Israeli counterparts since the Camp David accords of 1978.
Jordan
Israel and Jordan have straightforward ties. Israel needs Jordan as a security buffer, and Jordan needs Israel’s water and economic stability.
Former Israeli defense minister Moshe Yaalon also revealed that he participated in a secret summit in Aqaba, Jordan with Netanyahu, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Why the Arab nations are remaining silent in Israel’s operation on Gaza and even helping Israel tacitly.
- Iran factor: All the Sunni Arab nations are scared of Shia Iran who is on way to acquire nuclear power. Israel is the only nuclear power in the region. Having good ties with Israel is a good insurance against Iran.
- Technology: Arab nations have oil money but no technology. Israel is very advanced in technology like cyber security, missile defense etc. Israel invests lot in research. So Arab nations are trying to keep Israel happy so that they don’t lose access to technology. And Israel is making good leverage of its technology.
- Food and water: Before advent of Oil, Arab population was poor. The Arab nations have realized that the era of oil is coming to an end. So they must seek help from Israel who had developed advanced farming and sea water extraction technologies.
- Hamas are not a friend: The Hamas are propped up by Iran and are viewed with suspicion by Arab nations. Hence, if Israel is striking them, then it is helping Arab by destroying one of their most potent enemies.
- Armaments: Israel has a well development Industrial military ecosystem and produces many advanced arms. The Arab nations who have no military industry must depend on Israel to get arms. For e.g. Saudi was in advanced stages of negotiation to acquire “Iron Dome” – Israeli missile defense system.
- Israel is very powerful: Israel is way more powerful than all Arab nations combined and has been proved in several wars fought from 1948. So every Arab nation wants to be in good book of Israel, just like all employees try to remain in the good books of their powerful boss.
- Friendship with US: Israel is fully backed by US. Pleasing Israel will keep Uncle Sam happy. Hence, all Arab nations want US to be happy with them.
