DIWALI – traditionally known as Deepawali – is the Hindu festival of lights, usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika (between October and November). One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.”

Hindus celebrate Diwali, to mark the homecoming of Lord Rama after his jubilant victory over demons. Diwali is the largest community festival and celebration of culture & heritage. Diwali is celebrated worldwide by Sikhs, Punjabis, Gujaratis, Jains, Bengalis, Buddhists, Tamils, Nepalis, Sri Lankans, and East Indians.

Indo-Canada Arts Council (ICAC) strives to promote and develop the bilateral exchange of Arts & Culture between India & Canada. ICAC works and gets support from various individuals and organizations, including government and non-government agencies, to enrich our community with artistic values and cultural heritage. The festival series is funded in part by Canada Heritage and Celebrate Ontario funding programs from the governments of Canada and the province of Ontario.

In previous years, DRZMZ witnessed over 100,000 people in audiences, and this year, this free virtual event aims to outreach an even larger number of community members worldwide.
