Bail is like a divorced wife for Umar Khalid…never coming back. On 24th of March, Delhi Court denied bail to UAPA accused Umar Khalid in case(s) concerning Delhi Riots 2020 larger conspiracy. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat pronounced the order at noon on 24th March at Karkardooma Court.

The Delhi Police had arrested Khalid in this case on September 13, 2020 and chargesheeted him on November 22 the same year under various sections of the UAPA and the Indian Penal Code. On September 13, 2020 Khalid was arrested in connection with communal clashes that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020, after violence between Citizenship (Amendment) Act supporters and its protesters became out of control leaving many people dead and several injured.The order was reserved on March 3 by Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat of the Karkardooma Court and was deferred on three occasions – March 14, 21 and 23.
