The BJP-ruled states largely agree that Uniform Civil Code should be implemented. In Uttarakhand, a committee has been formed regarding this, and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya in Uttar Pradesh government has also said that the government is considering it. At the same time, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also given a big statement regarding the Uniform Civil Code and has retaliated on Asaduddin Owaisi’s statement.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, “Unemployment and inflation are on the rise and you (BJP) are worried about Uniform Civil Code. We are against it. The Law Commission has also said that there is no need for UCC in India. According to the Goa Civil Code, Hindu men have the right to a second marriage if the wife fails to give birth to a son by the age of 30. What does BJP have to say on this? BJP is in power over there.”
At the same time, the statement of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also come on the ongoing debate about UCC across the country. Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking in favor of UCC on Saturday said that it is the issue of all Muslim women. He said, “Everyone supports the UCC. No Muslim woman wants her husband to bring home three other wives and perform three marriages. Who would want that? This is not my issue. This is an issue of Muslim mothers and women.”
The Assam Chief Minister further said, “I am a Hindu and my sister and daughter have UCC armor. So if there is a shield of UCC for our sister and daughter then it should be for Muslim women and daughters also. If Muslim women ever have to get justice in the society then this is UCC after triple talaq. No woman would want her husband to do three marriages.”
Let us inform that Asaduddin Owaisi also targeted the BJP while accusing it of not distributing the resources equally. “Why doesn’t the BJP ban liquor where it is in power? The way you have imposed restrictions in Gujarat, why are similar restrictions not imposed in other states.
