The historicity of Ramayan is one of the most burning question in the minds of today’s youth. As a Matter of fact, I am thankful for all the doubts and lack of conviction in Ramayan!  So, lets, explore/ponder why historicity of Ramayan is being questioned?

  1. Questioning things is a sign of healthy vibrant society. That means people are curious to explore and learn the facts. Hindu parents have done a great job of teaching their kids to question things and explore.
  2. Hindu youth are unaware of the real Hindu history because either their parents don’t have a good understanding of it or have failed to convey it to them. A blind can’t lead another blind.
  3. Hindus have contracted school education of their children to Christian Missionaries who are spreading wrong information about Hinduism to achieve their goal of conversion.
  4. The job of writing School and College level study material has been outsourced to Communists and Islamists whose sole intention is to confuse and brainwash Hindu youths. They are working on their agenda to convert the Hindu youngsters and grab power by inducing and teaching incorrect, manipulated and made up history in the study material. Their final goal being “Gazwa-E-Hind”.
  5. Constitution of India doesn’t allow teaching of Hindu scriptures like Veda, Purana or Ramayan in schools and University. However, the same Indian constitution contradicts itself by allowing the Abrahamic religions to teach their holy books to everyone.
  6. State Governments control most Hindu temples and take away 80% of the offerings, but does not have the guts to take control of other religion’s institutions.
  7. Hindu parents enjoy living a Western life style much more than our traditional Hindu ways of living. We feel delighted when our children act like us and follow in our footsteps. So, unintentionally, we end up raising our children with Western moral values & life style thus, pushing them away from our Hindu roots and culture.
  8. An unfortunate and sad truth is that most Hindus still don’t want to invest time or money to learn about our own ancestors and true Hindu history!

Hope these reasons are enough to wake up a few of us (Hindus) from Kumbakarani sleep and realize our very own contribution to this confusion.

Now let’s take a look at some irrefutable facts to clarify/understand the history of Ramayana.

  1. Valmiki Ramayana was written by Rishi Valmiki during the exile of Mata Sita: She narrated the entire story of Shri Ram to Rishi Valmiki. Luv and Kush sung the Valmiki Ramayan in front of Shri Ram in his court. All the characters of Ramayan were present during the composition of Ramayan.  Therefore, it can’t be a made-up story.
  2. Existing Ruins of Rama Setu (Nala Setu also known as Adams bridge): Nala Setu can be seen from space. Most of the bridge is submerged under water due to rising sea levels but it is still above water at 16 deferent places between Bharat and Sri Lanka.
  3. Existence of all the places from Ramayan period: All the places that are described in Ramayan still exists physically all over Bharat and Sri Lanka. Currently CM Yogi Adityanath is working on developing a complete Ramayan circuit based on Valmiki Ramayan.
  4. Existence of Rishis, literature, artifacts and weapons:  All of these exists in multiple Hindu texts/scriptures, local cultures and folk tales without variation in the story of Ramayan all over the world.
  5. Ancestral history of Shri Ram: A complete list of Shri Ram’s ancestor lineage (family chart) is available in Ramayan and other ancient texts of Bharat.
  6. Celestial configuration in the sky:  The position/configuration of stars, planets, moon, and other celestial bodies that happens once in a while; that can be proved by using modern planetary software and ancient Hindu Panchang.
  7. Legend of Ram exists all over the world: Even today, the legend of Ram, exist in countries like Thailand (current king is ‘Rama the 10th’, a city named Ayodhya), Indonesia, Burma, Korea (Kim Dynasty formed by Princess of Ayodhya), Vietnam, Cambodia, Java, Singapore, Japan, Africa, Arabia, Europe, South America, Egypt (Solar Dynasty), Turkey, Russia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and countless other places.
  8. Identical story of Ramayan everywhere: The story of Ramayan is identical all over the world regardless of country, culture or religion!
  9. Only Ramayan and Mahabharat are called Itihasa: meaning ‘that is how it happened’. No other ancient text or literature of Bharat is called Itihasa except Ramayan and Mahabharat.

Hope this explanation clarified some of your doubts.  If you are still not convinced about the historicity of Ramayan, courses from Hindu University of America can provide you more in-depth explanation and proofs. Happy learning and Jai Shri Ram!
