On the 28th of August, police arrested 3 people from the Karimganj district of Assam in connection with the kidnapping and gang-rape of an 18-year-old girl. According to reports, the accused have been identified as Suleman Ali, Naseeruddin and Rahimuddin. One of the accused is still said to be absconding. The age of all the accused is between 19-23 years. They are residents of Dalgram village.
It is being said that one of the accused called the victim to a secluded place. The girl was well acquainted with the boy so she did not think it appropriate to tell about this in her home and went to meet the boy. From there, four people kidnapped her. The girl was taken to a forest located near the Indo-Bangladesh border. All the accused raped her one by one. The victim is said to be a resident of Neelam Bazar.
When the girl did not return home even after a long delay, the parents lodged a complaint with the Neelam Bazar police station. After this a search operation was conducted by the officer-in-charge, Deepjyoti Malakar. The victim was recovered from the forest and a case was registered based on her complaint.
In this case of kidnapping and rape, the police arrested 3 out of 4 accused. In this, Suleman Ali, Naseeruddin and Rahimuddin have been booked under sections 366 (kidnapping of a woman to compel marriage) and 376 D (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Karimganj SP Padmanabh Barua said, “Three including the main accused have been arrested. One of the accused is still absconding.” He added, “Investigation of the matter is on. Medical tests of victim and perpetrators have been conducted”.
At the same time, the family of the accused claims that the victim was in a relationship with an accused and everything happened with the consent of the girl.
