Police on Friday (26 August 2022) arrested a terrorist from Bongaigaon district in Assam. Initial investigation has found links of this terrorist to Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). At present, this terrorist is in police custody, where he is being closely interrogated.

 

The police made this arrest by Goalpara district police from Jogighopa area of ​​Bongaigaon district. The arrested suspected terrorist has been identified as Hafizur Rehman Mufti. Hafizur teaches in a madrasa in the area.

 

Goalpara SP VV Rakesh Reddy said, “Goalpara district police have arrested Hafizur Rehman Mufti, a member of AQIS/ABT, from Jogighopa area of ​​Bongaigaon district. He is a teacher in a madrasa. This is the fourth arrest within a week in connection with AQIS/ABT.

 

It is noteworthy that the Assam Police has been continuously campaigning against terrorists affiliated to Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). In this operation, the terrorists are getting caught by the police one after the other.

 

This is not the first arrest of terrorists associated with AQIS and ABT. Last Saturday (August 20, 2022) the police arrested two suspected terrorists named Abdus Subhan and Jalaluddin Sheikh from Goalpara district. Both of them were Imams in different mosques.

 

On the arrest of these suspected terrorists, the police had told that both of them used to make arrangements for living and food for the jihadi terrorists who came from Bangladesh. Along with this, he was recruiting sleeper cells in Goalpara district on behalf of AQIS.

 

Similarly, on 28 July 2022 also, 11 suspected terrorists were arrested by the Assam Police. In the subsequent interrogation, their links were found to be related to AQIS and ABT.
