With the UCC round the corner, famous Atheist song writer Javed Akhtar tried ro grab on to a chance to stay in the limelight.  A video of him talking about the virtues of Islam is going viral, in which he has stated the reason why UCC is being implemented: “People are jealous of Muslims because they have the right to have four wives at a time.”
So basically what he means to say is, one of the reasons why Islam is the world’s most loved and cherished religion is that people can have multiple wives.  One wonders why he stopped after bringing out only this quality of Islam.  He should have taken some more time to explain in greater detail all the reasons why Islam is number one.  For example:

1. A man can divorce his wife as easy as 1, 2, 3

Regardless of what apologists, read moderates might try to tell you that this is an Indian thing and there is no such practice proscribed by Quran, this is one of the biggest selling points of Islam.  Triple Talaq or Talaq e Biddat is a reality in Islam and no change in law will stop it from happening.  Jurists have been talking about this issue for 1400 years and some have taken the position that three divorces whether uttered at once or separately would be considered as three divorces. According to them, whether a person misused this right knowingly or unknowingly the affect would be the same. If someone uttered the words of divorce three times, then this would be talaq mughallaz and his wife would become totally forbidden for him and they could not reconcile without a halala.  One can argue that the proponents of quick triple talaq also run organised Halala services, but that is a separate selling point.

2. Girls reach marriageable age soon as they get their first period

Quran has defined 3 kinds of women on who it is not mandatory to observe gestation period of 3 months after their previous marriage before a man can remarry them.  One of these kinds of women are those who have not yet received their period.

“As for your women past the age of menstruation, in case you do not know, their waiting period is three months, and those who have not menstruated as well…” 65:4 Quran

This verse is supported by the marriage of Prophet Muhammed with his favourite wife Ayesha, who was 6 years old at the time of marriage.  So the men who follow Islam can easily indulge in pedophilia and stay virtuous at the same time!

3. Women are considered half a witness

This essentially means that there must be 4 women presenting any crime which has to be reported and her testimony is considered half of the same by a man.  On this matter, the Quran says:

“Call upon two of your men to witness. If two men cannot be found, then one man and two women of your choice will witness—so if one of the women forgets the other may remind her.” 2:282

This works wonders for the menfolk because if an atrocity is committed by them against a woman, she must bring 4 witnesses to prove it.

4. Women have limited or no right to divorce

Once again, contrary to what apologists and ‘enlightened’ Muslims may tell you, women are not allowed to divorce their husbands the same way men are.  There are no triple talaq scenarios for women.  If she wants to leave her husband she has to do it via the procedure of Khula, which first and foremost requires her to forego her Haq Mehr money, then giveback all and any presents the husband may have given to her, and then go through a long procedure of harassment at the hands of the justice system as well as her husband who will do whatever it takes to humiliate her, blackmail her, refuse to return her dowry and fight tooth and nail over custody of children.

5. The main purpose of a woman’s existence is to please men

By now surely even those who don’t follow Islam would have heard about the verse which says women are your fields to tilth on.  Just in case, here it is:

“Your wives are like fields for you, so go into the fields however you want” Quran 2:223

Through Hadith, it has been attempted to explain what women are good for.  “The woman advances and retires in the shape of a devil, so when one of you sees a woman, he should come to his wife, for that will repel what he feels in his heart.” 3240, Kitab un Nikah, Book 8, Sahih Muslim

There are numerous such Hadith and instances recorded in books on how women are used as a vessel for sex in Islam.  In addition to this, women in Islam are followers of men who are their leaders, and it is their job to obey all that the menfolk in their lives tell them; their place socially is in most ways below that of a man. This is due to the woman’s deficient intelligence vis-a-vis men. Due to this deficiency, women are the majority of inhabitants of hell.  This is described by the Prophet in his lone visit to see Allah, where he witnessed to have seen hellfire and stated that most of the population of hell consisted of women. Women, though, can please their Lord by pleasing their husband. It is the woman’s duty to submit sexually and in every other fashion to her husband, and to keep him constantly sexually gratified, so as to keep him from straying from the marriage. If a wife is not sufficiently pleasing to her husband or is rebellious, the husband has many remedies including beating her.

After the implementation of UCC, peaceful menfolk will be deprived of legally using all of the above and many more such privileges  provided to them under Muslim Personal Law.  This is one of the main reasons why Muslim men in particular are not in favour of Uniform Civil Code in India. Where else will they get such high stature as they do in Islam, and under Muslim Personal Law?
