Following a letter signed by Praful Patel dissolving all units at the national level except for a few, people have been speculating about the future of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) since Wednesday night. Reports suggest that restructuring is being done to accommodate leaders.
Praful Patel tweeted, “With the approval of our National President Hon’ble Shri Sharad Pawar Saheb, all the National level Departments and Cells of @NCPspeaks excluding Nationalist Women’s Congress, Nationalist Youth Congress and Nationalist Students Congress stand dissolved with immediate effect.”
Patel clarified that “This decision does not apply to Maharashtra or any other state unit.”
However, there was enough information here for many people to conjecture. What actually happened, then?
The letter was intended for office and only for NCP officials and the leaders of the units that were active at the national level but have since been disbanded, according to sources within the NCP.
But the letter was leaked. According to a source, the letter was intended for internal distribution but was leaked outside after being placed in a WhatsApp group. Additionally, Patel’s tweet was too unclear, which sparked a lot of discussions.
There were rumours that the NCP was attempting to stoke some sort of uprising, but there was no evidence of this.
Clyde Castro, Spokesperson, NCP claimed, “It was nothing but an official order that got leaked and thus creating confusion, new teams will be formed, and in few days you will see it.”
Numerous leaders will need to be accommodated as a result of the Maharashtra state government’s collapse, and by restructuring the units, these leaders will be given leadership roles and kept busy.
