At the same time, many people have now given up hope of getting home. The pathetic condition of the people can be easily gauged from the fact that almost 15 years have passed since the reconstruction of Patra Chawl. Despite this, citizens are still waiting for the keys of their respective flats to be handed over to them.
Santosh Mane further says that the rent of the house where he lives presently is, 15 thousand rupees. All his earnings from his auto rickshaw are spent paying rent of the house. His elder brother helps him a little bit. While the educational expense of his two children is being borne by a woman, who was his colleague in the previous company. He said that this is how I am living my life. Mane said that his life for the past 7 years have been in the same situation. Also, no rent was paid to them, by the builder. When asked about payment of rent, no answer was given in response. After all, if they go, where should they go?
Sharad Pawar had promised
Santosh Mane told that, a few months ago, Sharad Pawar had come to a nearby grounds, where the residents of Patra Chawl had also met him. Pawar had then promised them that the would start getting rent from next month onwards. Apart from the rent, they would also be getting the keys of their houses within next 2 years. But till time being, the rent still hasn’t been started. In such a situation, how can they be so sure that they would get their house in the next 2 years.
