Protests continue in many parts of the country against the Centre’s Agneepath scheme. Meanwhile, a meeting was held at Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence with the three army chiefs to discuss the issue. The meeting was to discuss ways to implement the Agneepath scheme and pacify the agitators. This is the second review meeting convened by Rajnath Singh in two days regarding the scheme.

Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lieutenant General Anil Puri will hold a press conference on the issue of Agniveer Recruitment Scheme in South Block. During this, the Adjutant General of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Bansi Ponnappa, the Chief of the Indian Navy, Vice Admiral Dinesh Tripathi and the Personnel-in-Charge of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Suraj Jha will also be present.
Changes introduced since the announcement of scheme-
- 10% reservation for Agniveers in CAPF and Assam Rifles.
- In the current year, the age limit of Agniveer has been increased from 21 to 23.
- Indian Coast Guard, Defense Civilian Post along with 16 companies of Defense Public Sector Undertaking will also get reservation in appointments.
- Agniveers will be given cheap loans after retirement and will be given priority in government jobs.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced to give preference to Agniveers in police recruitment in BJP ruled states . Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Thursday that Agniveers would be given jobs in police and disaster management departments.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath tweeted that after retiring from the Armed Forces after four years, Agniveers would be given preference in the Police Department. Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said that the government has decided to give priority to Agniveers in police department recruitment.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced priority to Agniveers in the Assam Arogya Nidhi initiative. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that Agniveers who have completed their service under the Agneepath scheme will get preference in government jobs in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said that Agniveers will get priority in the subsidy schemes of the police and the state government.
Indian Air Force has issued a guideline for the recruitment of Agniveers in the Air Force . The Air Force is the first of the three armies to issue a guideline. According to this, Agniveers will have to complete their four years of service. Before that he would not be able to leave the force. To do so they have to get the consent of the officer.
