The Bloomberg reports that Seychelles, the most vaccinated nation has activated curbs as there is a surge in fresh Covid cases. It has now activated curbs like closure of schools and all sporting activities for two weeks seeing the sudden increase in Covid cases.

The Seychelles has vaccinated over 60% of its population with two doses of Covid vaccines, but has off late witnessed a surge in fresh Covid cases prompting it to impose curbs like last year.

The primary vaccine used in Seychelles, over 59% of doses, was from Sinopharm.

Notably, Chile saw a massive surge in coronavirus cases in April despite having the most successful speedy vaccine rollout in the world. 93% of doses administered in Chile were CoronaVac vaccine, manufactured by Chinese state run pharmaceutical Sinovac.

The WHO experts has earlier also raised earlier their concerns about the efficacy of Chinese vaccines according to Economic Times report. China itself has now publicly admitted the low rate of efficacy of its Covid vaccines and is planning to experiment by mixing different vaccines to try to improve its efficacy as reported by WION.

While only recently Indian made indigenous Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin has 98% efficacy in severe Covid cases and 78% overall efficiency. Covaxin is very effective against the more severe  UK variant, B.1.1.7, and the Indian double mutant variant, B.1.617. It is also very effective against the Brazil variant of SARS-CoV-2, B.1.128.2, as per a new study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in association with the National Institute of Virology according to India Today.
