A case of brutal barbaric Jihadi honour killing has come to fore from Karnataka, where a 19 year old Hindu Dalit boy and his 18 year old Muslim girlfriend have been brutally murdered by the Muslim girl’s family at Saladahalli village in Devara Hipparagi taluk in Vijayapura district.

As per media reports a 19-year-old Hindu Dalit boy named Basavaraj Madivalapaa Badiger, an autorickshaw driver from Saladahalli village, and his 18-year-old Muslim lover Davalbi Bandagisab Tambad, a resident of the neighbouring Khanapur village, were allegedly murdered by the girl’s father and other family members.

Notably, the Times Of India, while reporting this incident tried to obfuscate facts, by claiming it to be a case of Honour Killing for ‘inter-caste love affair’ involving a Dalit youth. The Times of India tried to cover-up the fact that the Dalit Hindu boy’s lover was a Muslim girl and the brutal lynching of the couple in love was carried out by the Muslim girl’s father and family because they objected to the boy belonging to Dalit Hindu family.

According to villagers, the boy and girl were in a relationship for the past six months. The Muslim girl’s family members had warned the Dalit Hindu youth of dire consequences and asked her to stay away from her. But the couple continued to meet which angered the Muslim girl’s family as they objected to the boy being a Hindu and a Dalit. On Tuesday reportedly a member of the Muslim girl’s family found the couple together at a field and informed her father.

The police stated that the Muslim girl’s father along with other family members rushed to the spot, tied them with a rope, thrashed them and stabbed them dead.

Meanwhile according to a Asia News report, Mallavva, the mother of the deceased Hindu Dalit youth Badiger, the couple were murdered right in front of her eyes by the Muslim girl’s father and other family members, even as Mallavva begged them to spare the young couple’s lives.

Mallava said, the girl’s family tied the couple to a tree and thrashed them in front of her. After thrashing them mercilessly, the Muslim family killed them by stoning them and attacking them with sharp objects. The Hindu youth’s mother Mallavva told Asianet, “I begged them to let the couple go, but they kept on mercilessly beating the couple.”

The Vijayapura SP, Anupam Agarwal reportedly said,“Prima facie, it looks like a case of honour killing. But the case has to be investigated further. The accused are absconding, and we are searching for them”. The Karnataka police is hunting for the absconding Muslim girl’s family and father and confident to nab them very soon.

Meanwhile, the IANS reports that the crime came to light when the United Dalit Forum of Sindagi Taluk submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday evening complaining that this was a case of Honor Killing.

Nandakumar Bambekar, the Karnataka Madiga Youth Brigade President, reportedly told reporters that the crime has sent shock waves across Dalits living in Saladahalli village. He also alleged that the police was trying to water down the case against the girl’s father by naming him as fifth accused instead of registering him as prime accused. He alleged that the police is under the influence of some rich people who are trying to obfuscate the case.

When the complaint reached Karnataka’s Home Minister, a thorough investigation and speedy actions to nab the culprits without any appeasement or compromise was ordered.

In the meanwhile, The Times Of India and mainstream media mischievously tries to pass off Honour Killing by Muslim family of Dalit Hindu boy, as a murder committed by upper caste Hindu family, by using misleading titles and not stating anywhere within the article that the murderers were Muslims. This exposes the fact that vulnerable Dalit Hindus are more at risk from Muslims rather than so-called upper caste Hindus.
