With the recent news about 5G Technology making the rounds, much public curiosity has arisen about this new advance and how it will transform our lives. 5G is a major technological advance in the field of telecommunications that will revolutionize multiple economic sectors from communication to logistics to information technology and artificial intelligence to healthcare and even agriculture. Let us take a look at some of the ways in which 5G is about to transform our lives

  1. Faster Mobile Service

One of the most noticeable improvements through the rollout of 5G will be a major upgrade in the quality and speed of mobile connectivity and service. The deployment of 5G services will enable the delivery of broadband-like services with upto 10 to 20 gigabytes per second of data download speed, which would allow the efficient simultaneous transmission of voice and high-speed data.  Mobile download speeds will be much faster and will provide a much better overall mobile experience, along with providing secure access to cloud applications to store information online and run powerful tasks using much greater processing power.

  1.  Autonomous Vehicles

A major boost on the technological scene once 5G is fully deployed will be ultra-reliable low latency which would enable the functioning of technologies that require response within a fraction of a second. 5G Networks would enable autonomous vehicles as dramatically reduced latency would enable vehicles to response 10-100 times faster than over current cellular networks. The ultimate goal is to create a V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication network, which would enable vehicles to automatically respond to objects and changes around them instantaneously.

  1. 5G IoT in Smart City and Infrastructure

The deployment of 5G will enable the expansion of intelligent transportation systems and support-connected vehicle technology, which will promote safety in smart traffic monitoring systems to ensure safety in transportation systems. Sensors are now being installed at every intersection to detect movement and cause connected and autonomous vehicles to appropriately react by smart cities. This digital infrastructure is being installed already to support connected vehicle technology to ensure pedestrian and vehicle safety.

  1. Industrial Automation

The deployment of 5G will enable mass industrial automation using synchronized robotics in factories and in industrial facilities. In the present-day WiFi does not support the range, mobility and control necessary for industrial support , however, 5G would enable industrial automation facilites to go completely wireless enabling smart, efficient factories.

  1. Application in Drones

Drones have opened up a wide avenue for technological application in the current day and age, finding usage in fields as diverse as consumer filming and photography, equipment inspection, home deliveries by logistic and retail companies. However, today, their range is limited to the line of site and the distance of the controller which hampers their widespread usage. However, the introduction of 5G will allow to see beyond current limits with low latency and high resolution video and extend the reach of controllers beyond a few kilometers.

There are many more potential use-cases of 5G, not all of which can be detailed and covered in this article. However, it remains the case that the introduction of 5G technologies wil revolutionize the lives of all of us in many ways and open avenues for new opportunities and enterprises that will capitalize on this upcoming boom.
