Last year, in the month of August, the Taliban captured the power of Afghanistan. When WION reporter Anas Malik went to report on the Taliban’s one-year anniversary, he was attacked and kidnapped. The incident happened on Thursday. Reportedly, he is now safe in Kabul.

WION reporter Anas Malik and his group arrived in Kabul on Wednesday night. One day later, he was receiving criticism for his thorough reporting on Afghanistan’s one year under Taliban rule. The Taliban then attacked Anas and his group after that the group was abducted by the Taliban.

Taliban, which is known for its religious extremism, appears to be concerned about in-person reporting in Kabul. Meanwhile, the WION reporter was abducted while doing so had all appropriate authorizations. Anas claimed that the group had everything including press credentials and they were covering general scenes.

He added, “we were stopped during this and our phones were taken after being forcibly removed from the vehicle. We got into a fight with the Taliban. The entire team was beaten by them.”

Anas claimed, “After some time, we were removed from the location from which we had learned that it was the Taliban’s intelligence service in Afghanistan. They put us in handcuffs, covered our eyes, and started accusing us. Ask inquiries about the journalism’s credibility. Not only that, but they asked a lot of personal questions about us. We were later freed, but the Taliban still had authority over the nearby producers and our drivers. They said that they will drop both of us soon, but there is no update as of now.”

Recently, the US recently asserted that it had assassinated Ayman al-Zawahiri, an al-Qaeda terrorist. The Taliban in its press release condemned the presence of Al-Zawahiri in its territory and questioned the actions of the US as well. The Taliban claimed to be unaware of Zawahiri’s presence in Afghanistan. And mentioned how the US invaded their area and broke every rule of international law.
