BIDEN REVOKES TRUMP’S AFFORDABLE DRUG POLICY

Ex-President Donald Trump was bandied about by the leftists and socialists that he pursued pro-crony capitalist policies which left the poor and lower middle class Americans high and dry. Contrary to this perception created by the leftist-jihadi biased media, President Trump had by Executive Orders in July 24, 2020 and September 13, 2020 signed Rebate Reforms in Drug Policy, which was confirmed in December 2020, to link the cost of certain medicines in America to cheaper prices of the same drug in other developed countries.

In effect, Trump reduced the prices of several essential drugs in America and made them at par with the prices at which they were sold in Canada and other developed countries. This helped many common people with no insurance cover in America to have access to essential drugs at affordable price. President Joe Biden after swearing-in froze this drug policy of ex-President Trump that mandated community health centres to pass on all their insulin and epinephrine discount savings to patients.

The biggest beneficiary of this revocation of drug policy by Biden are the big three insulin Pharma companies who are elated and laughing their way to the banks. The three big insulin producers

Drug Price Reform Policy of Trump which made insulin prices affordable as it slashed the price of insulin by nearly 90% and also reduced the state expenditure for Medicare drastically.

The three big insulin producers, Eli Lily and Company, Novo Nordisk A/S, and Sanofi S.A., dominate more than 90% of the world insulin market value. Notably, insulin produced by these American companies are exported to other developed nations, like Canada, where the same exported insulin is available in much lower price than it is available in America.

Notably, more than 20 million Americans have diabetes and insulin is used to treat diabetes. In America, nearly 50 million people are not covered by insurance. So, Trump reformed the drug pricing policy of America by keeping the prices of essential drugs like insulin and epinephrine at par with the affordable prices in other developed countries.

Trump therefore campaigned on lowering the price of important pharmaceutical drugs like insulin, which is used to treat diabetes, and epinephrine. About a quarter of Medicare beneficiaries are afflicted by diabetes, in which the body fails to properly use sugar from food due to insufficient insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas.. This did not go well with the big pharma companies and they started to campaign against Trump by financing political adversaries of Trump like Joe Biden.

BIG PHARMA’S HATRED FOR TRUMP

Trump’s “most favored nation” law sought to lower prices in Medicare by linking the costs of certain medicines to cheaper prices in other developed countries. Americans would often complain that the prices of the same drugs manufactured in the US is much costlier to its price in Canada and Mexico.

The pharmaceutical industry were up in arms against the measure, arguing it would bring foreign price controls to the U.S. healthcare system. What upset the pharmaceutical industries more was, The Trump administration also removed the gag clauses that prevented pharmacists from telling patients how to buy less expensive drugs. Till then the pharmacists could not talk to patients about how to buy affordable drugs.

Notably, Seema Verma, the former U.S. Administrator, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, wrote in an op-ed in October 2020, “This year, President Trump struck a deal –known as the Part D Senior Savings Model – with pharmaceutical manufacturers and plans that will provide many Medicare beneficiaries access to a broad set of insulins at a maximum $35 copay for a month’s prescription. We are encouraging beneficiaries to see if a participating plan that includes their insulin is right for them during Medicare Open Enrollment, which begins October 15.

This initiative could save the over 1.3 million seniors who rely on Medicare Part D plans and use insulin, an average of $446, or 66 percent, a year on their insulin costs. For those whose health, and even lives, depend on insulin, the savings will be nothing short of a godsend.”

BIG PHARMA INDUSTRIES’ POLITICAL LINKS

In the 2020 US Presidential elections, Eli Lilly (the largest U.S. maker of insulin), gave US$ 138,880 to Joe Biden while it gave nothing to Donald Trump. However, Republican Senator Mitch McConnell got US$ 48,493, according to The Center for Responsive Politics, which makes it quite clear that the biggest Pharma Company was annoyed with Trump fro bringing in measures that would not allow it to fleece the Americans.

Notably, West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin’s daughter Heather Bresch is the CEO of Mylan. Mylan manufactures the EpiPen, which is a life-saving device. In 2016, Mylan jacked up the price of the EpiPen 400% which became a huge scandal. EpiPens were about US$ 57 when Mylan acquired it. The EpiPen has been around since 1977.

CONCLUSION

It is very evident therefore, that big lobbies like the Parmaceutical Industries, who could not fleece American citizens and residents to buy overpriced drugs; the Arms Manufacturing and Sale lobby, which found itself having less sales as Trump was the only President of America for a very long time since George W Bush who did not impose any war on America; the big Tech Companies which employed cheap workers and professionals from other developing nations to do their back office jobs to save money from employing American citizens who have to be paid multiple times more was rudely shocked when Trump imposed extra taxes on them for not employing American citizens all ganged up together with the leftist-jihadi lobby to defeat Trump at any cost.

These nefarious bodies went over board to get Joe Biden elected to Presidency by hook or crook, the election process with a huge dump of postal votes itself raises questions whether the biggest festival of democracy – free and fair elections was conducted fairly in the most powerful democracy in the world.

So, Biden by revoking Trump’s Drug policy of providing low cost insulin to American citizens and residents only makes the Big Pharma Companies laugh all the way to the banks and the American citizens would now again continue to bleed to fatten up the Deep State which was starved by Trump. Trump was a true people’s President irrespective of his dalliances in personal life.
