Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit after last year’s assembly elections in Bengal, reached the house of deceased BJP worker Arjun Chaurasia (27) in Kolkata’s Kashipur area on Friday afternoon. Arjun Chaurasia’s body was found hanging in suspicious condition in the morning. Shah met the family members of the deceased here and consoled them. Shah also visited the place located at some distance from the house of the deceased, from where the body of BJP Yuva Morcha’s Mandal Vice President Chaurasia was recovered from the deserted building.
Talking to reporters here after meeting the family members, Amit Shah said that today BJP worker Arjun Chaurasia was murdered out of political vendetta. His family says he was brutally murdered. The Home Minister said that only one year of the third term of Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been completed yesterday. On the second day itself, the era of political violence has started.
The Home Minister said that we have come across many examples of political violence, vendetta killings and selective targeting of activists of opposing political parties across Bengal. BJP strongly condemns the killing of Arjun and we will ensure that the killer gets the harshest punishment from the court. Strongly condemning this murder, he said that the state government should hand over the investigation of this murder to the CBI.
Shah also said that the Union Home Ministry is also taking serious note of the incident and today itself the Home Ministry has called for a report from the West Bengal government. He further said that I have met the victim’s family. Chaurasia’s grandmother was also not spared, she was also killed. BJP workers have gone before the court that it should be videographed with a panel post-mortem and the investigation of the case should be handed over to the CBI.
Shah said the BJP will ensure that the culprits get the harshest punishment. At the same time, BJP has blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for it, calling it a murder. The Trinamool, however, has denied the allegations. Here, after this incident, the party also canceled all programs of Shah’s reception in Kolkata. This information was given by issuing a statement on behalf of the state BJP.
State BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said that he was a skilled party worker. We found him dead this morning. Here, refuting BJP’s allegations, TMC MP Shantanu Sen said, the allegations leveled against the party for this incident are baseless. Let the police investigate the matter. Police said that investigation into the incident has been started.
