For past six days, there is non stop drama on the Maharashtra political which no news channel is missing. More than two-thirds have revolted and are demanding revival of alliance with BJP.

Lets understand why is the Great Babasaheb’s Shiv Sena is going through the most difficult phase.

First, Dynastic succession 

Shiv Sena had been a cadre based party. Balasaheb worked hard through out his life to build a party with dedicated cadres. Typically, dynasty and cadre based don’t go well with each other. Will RSS survive if the top posts of RSS become dynastic? Uddhav did not match the mettle and charisma of his father. Hence, the hard core cadres of SS are disillusioned with the current leadership.

Second, rejection of Balasaheb’s ideology

The SS was founded on 2 core principles. First, Hindutva and second, Marathi pride. The party has completely shunned them. SS has aligned with parties who have open connections with Dawood – who killed hundreds of Mumbaikars in 1993. SS opposed the movie Kashmir files which highlighted the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus at the hands of Islamic extremists. The core SS cadres who are brainwashed with Hindutva ideology are unable to digest this.

Third, allies are running away with SS voter base

SS desperately wanted the CM post which the allies offered. But, they extracted their pound of flesh. How? The funds that should have been given to SS MLAs are being diverted to the allies. Due to this the progress in the constituencies of SS MLAs is suffering. However, this was not happening when they were allied with BJP. The MLAs are the end of day would face the voters and if they are not able to deliver their voter base will move else where and will result to their political deaths.

What SS must do before it becomes history?

  1. Re-embrace Balasaheb’s ideology. Mere lip service wont help.
  2. Re-align with like minded parties and dump un-natural alliances.
  3. Listen to your core and dedicated cadres.
  4. Bring in democracy within the party. Cadre based parties and dynasty don’t gel well.
