In connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri case, Mohammed Zubair, a self-described fact-checker and co-founder of the propaganda website Alt News, was given a 14-day judicial detention order on Monday, July 11, 2022. The individual who reported him is currently the target of death threats from Islamists and has requested police protection.
Ashish Katiyar, the complainant, claimed that while en route to court earlier this week, some individuals stopped him and made threats to harm him and his family because of his complaint against Mohammed Zubair.
In conjunction with the case, Zubair’s attorney has also applied for bail in court. On July 13, the subject will be heard. BK Trivedi, the attorney for complainant Ashish Katiyar, has also voiced displeasure over the Lakhimpur Kheri police’s protracted indifference to the FIR against Zubair.
Trivedi questioned, “The police must get Zubair’s custody as there are several reports of him getting money from abroad. On what basis will the police charge sheet in this case without taking his custody?”
Sudarshan News reporter Ashish Katiyar, who had also lodged a complaint against Mohammed Zubair, has informed the police that he has been receiving death threats. In his complaint, he said, “Today at 11 am, I was on my way to the court from my house,” and forwarded it to SHO Mohammadi on July 11. It was time to hear my case. As soon as I got to the road, four unidentified individuals stopped me and began verbally insulting me. They allegedly threatened to kill you and your entire family if Zubair’s bail was not approved today. All four of them fled after that.
Recently, Mohd Zubair was granted bail in one of the FIRs filed against him. But he is still in imprisonment due to another FIR against him in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.
