Karan Johar’s Brahmastra which was released on 9 September 2022 has been receiving hate from the audience. The reason is obvious. They went to watch a story based on Brahmastra and got Ranbir and Alia a pre-wedding shoot in VFX. The bad reviews got empty theatres of PVR overseas, and even in metro cities cinema halls aren’t going houseful.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar has been putting so much of his intellect and investment into the film even after its release that Brahmastra will be proved to be a “Pyrrhic victory” for Karan Johar. A pyrrhic victory is one that comes at a high cost, possibly rendering the struggle to win unjustifiably. It has to do with Pyrrhus, a king of Epirus who, after losing a large portion of his army and a lot of money, defeated the Romans in 279 BCE. In the same way, Karan Johar has been putting his investment into Public relations and social media marketing just to state to others that Bhrahmastra earned 75 crores on day 1. How is it possible for films whose shows are running in empty cinema halls overseas and not going houseful in India as well?
Has it really earned that much? At least looking at the quality of the Brahmastra film, it doesn’t seem so. The film’s screenplay and weak plot lines have earned Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra moderately poor reviews. Somewhere in this, there is a smell of a booking scam to show Brahmastra as a blockbuster. There is also an angle of booking scams in all the ongoing discussions regarding the film.
But be it top media houses or Bollywood actors, everyone is mentioning how they desire to watch Brahmastra and how Brahmastra is winning their hearts. The Pyrrhic victory of Karan Johar is visible where he must have been spending a great amount for all this publicity to ensure that Brahmastra runs at the box office despite incompetency.
