The Supreme Court on Monday rejected to hear a petition seeking an investigation into the 1989 assassination of advocate Tika Lal Taploo in the Kashmir valley by terrorists.

According to reports, the panel of Justices BR Gavai and CT Ravikumar refused to hear the case, stating that it had not heard a comparable case before.

“We are not willing to interfere…,” the panel said while allowing the petitioner to pursue alternative remedies. The petitioner then retracted his request.

Ashutosh Taploo, the son of Tika Lal Taploo, a famous Kashmiri Pandit and former BJP vice president who was assassinated by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) terrorists at the time, submitted the petition.

The petition asked for the safety and rehabilitation of family members, as well as an investigation and prosecution of those involved in his father’s death.

The Supreme Court has rejected to hear a petition brought by the NGO “We The Citizens” requesting an investigation into the killings of Kashmiri pandits in the 1990s. It also sought rehabilitation for individuals who had been forced to evacuate the Kashmir valley.

The Supreme Court granted the NGO the right to file a representation with the federal government.
