The world is thick with debate on sustainability. The key to sustainability is recycling, self- renewability. Solar and Wind energy are seen as viable and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. Tesla looks the number one beneficiary of this understanding and realization. We all know Water cycle and Food chain, very well.
How about air that we all breathe. Learn from the original recycler. Every one of us inhales oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide. Did you see perfect instant recycling? The life on the planet goes on because of this turning carbon dioxide into oxygen. Thanks to the plants, the medium (or machines) that constantly and instantly turn carbon dioxide into oxygen.
All bodies are made of 5 base elements and go back to the same 5 base elements, irrespective of method of disposal of dead bodies by followers of different faiths and religions. Those 5 base elements are Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Ether, what we call Nature; His creation. Get to know the 1st 40 chemical elements from the Periodic Table and their corresponding symbols, in Chemistry class, notwithstanding.
How scientific and valid were the conclusions of Sanatan Dharma, put in concise and precise mantras (verses) as follows:
ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात्पूर्णमुदच्यते ।
पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ॥
(Om Puurnnam-Adah Puurnnam-Idam Puurnnaat-Puurnnam-Udacyate |
Puurnnasya Puurnnam-Aadaaya Puurnnam-Eva-Avashissyate ||)
The meaning (translation or transliteration) of this mantra has been explained in different and varied words. May check out Google for all confusion.
The simplest, I read was:
That is Whole.
This is Whole.
This Whole taken out of that Whole,
That Whole remains Whole.
That Whole is energy.
This whole is matter.
When energy converts into matter, it is only change of form.
While in existence, this form is essentially energy; and at the end this, material form converts back to energy.
Isn’t recycling?
What is the name of the Recycler? AUM.
AUM, as originally named; later propagated as God, Allah, Sat guru and others.
AUM is a conjoint of three letters, ‘उ आ म’.
उ= उपजाना (Upajana)
आ= आलन- पालन (Aalan-Paalan)
म= मृत्यु (Mrityu)
Upjana is generation. Aalan-Palan is Sustenance. Mrityu is Death (to recreate) or Recreation.
Now you see the cycle of life to which nothing is exception in this universe. Everything, in all forms, generate, grow and sustain, and decay or die. This understanding has been the basis of forgiving, even to the demons, in Sanatan Dharma. Unfortunately, lesser realized take it and pronounce it as the feeble-heartedness of Hindus. It is actually a matter of intellect over body. On the other hand, in modern day, I tend to agree with Chanakya who said as long as you live in the world, live the worldly ways or resign to a forest.
The fundamental force (process or cycle) was named ‘AUM’ by ancient Hindus.
Thus, AUM is the name of that creates, sustains and decays to recreate.
The Original Recycler!
Two Fun Facts:
The above verse is the opening verse of Isavasyopanishad, the text traditionally studied first by a new student. (Could you see the depth of Hindu Thought? This is the A for Apple for Hindus.)
A Mantra should be recited in one breath to help build your lung power (and avoid attack of COVID- 19 and its likes).
