Living miles away from our homeland we learn of many issues in the Indian subcontinent. Rarely, we think the exact same problem can impact us in USA
This case occurred to one Indian migrant family residing in Dallas, shook the local community.
A family in Dallas had been working hard to meet their daily needs. One of their young daughter unknowingly got involved with people that had criminal background.
Sometimes, its the decisions of the innocent kids which lead to painful outcomes for adults. We do not realize how the criminal mind works.
At the age of 12, a typical Indian girl is expected to be cheerful about dancing, singing, etc. While preparing for one such event, Aarushi got into a friendship with a Muslim girl named Saina of her age.
This simple friendship had severe consequences for the family. They lost their father, their social security, legal documents (identity theft) and the whole family had to finally move away to save themselves from the criminals.
Aarushi was the eldest child in the family & like any young girl had plans to be a doctor. Aarushi was introduced to boy name Javed 16 years old and Hameed(28 years) through Saina.
Javed and Hameed took Saina and Aarushi out to big hotels and restaurants. Many times without approval from Aarushi’s parents. Her father, Shashi learnt about the unusual relationship between her now 13 year old Aarushi and these adults.
Restrictions on Aarushi proved to be futile. Any effort for legal help was met with strong opposition from folks of Javed and Hameed’s community. An organized plan of taking away Aarushi from his own family was becoming visible.
Aarushi had grown rebellious against her own parents. Meanwhile the youngest child of the family was diagnosed with cancer. The helplessness of a father, who worked hard to meet the daily necessities of the family, started showing as he now had to deal with rebellious daughter and a kid suffering from cancer.
And one fine day Shashi succumbed to these pressures and drank poison. He left the family in a big mess. The community came forward and started raising money for the family.
In this situation Aarushi was the most vulnerable and started to become even more rebellious. After few days of losing Shashi, the family learnt about the robbery in their house where their legal documents like social security, passport and bank documents were missing.
Suddenly Aarushi went missing. Later someone tried to hack into their bank account using legal documents to take away the funds raised for the family and their left over savings.
Community members somehow saved this attempt.
A police complaint was filed but almost no action was taken. Aarushi returned after few days. The community came forward and provided moral support to the family. Seema, one of the family friend talked to Aarushi and learnt about the details which is already shared so far.
Community leaders realized the depth of the problem. Personal and social networks were utilized to save the family from organized attempt from the other community. Family was relocated to a safer place, the kids were protected by ensuring community meets them regularly.
All this left the community with many questions and our own understandings of the issue. Saina herself being 12 year old was not expected to know 18 year old Javed and 28 year old Hameed. Javed and Hameed were possibly friends of Saina’s cousins. Lot of things are still unknown.
We now know that Hameed is behind bars for auto theft and Javed is in jail for abusing minor girls. Both are alleged to be Rohingya Refugees who are legally staying in US.
I have heard about similar cases in Kerala and NIA (National Investigation Agency) of India and High Court of Kerala are already investigating the Sex Jihad issue, one of many deceptive methods to get Non-Muslim girls into accepting Islam and using them for terrorist activities.
Such events are happening in the US and the local people are unaware. Thanks to our Hindu community members who came forward to help the family in the time of need and ensured that the community support stays firmly behind them.
