It is a well-known fact that the Congress party is opposing the new Farm Laws passed by the central government led by PM Narendra Modi more with an idea to re-capture power at the centre by creating wholesale unrest and mayhem in the country. For this the Congress does not mind partnering with the Pakistan sponsored Khalistani forces who are pumping hundreds of crores to spread violence and destruction all across the country.

Even as the politically motivated protests continues against the new Farm Acts, 2020 the Republic Bharat TV reported on 05.10.2021 that the Punjab government led by Congress Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has allowed farmers from other states to sell their agricultural produce in Punjab, thereby implemented one of the three major new Farm Acts enacted by the centre in a circuitous manner. This amounts to implementing the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020 which allows farmers to sell their produce directly at any market of their choice without any restrictions by the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees of their respective states.

The Punjab Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Bharat Bhushan Ashu stated that the Addressing a press conference on Tuesday morning, Punjab Minister of Food and Civil S that the state had opened its doors for farmers from neighbouring regions to sell their produce in Punjab. However, he maintained that the administration has given its nod to only farmers and not traders or middlemen. While the  While the Punjab government had passed three bills to nullify the effect of the three farm laws passed by the Centre.

It is pertinent to note here that in the Congress manifesto of 2017 Punjab Assembly Elections, promised to amend the APMC Act to give farmers direct access to national and international market through digital technology. The promises also included a clause stating that they would bring in changes in the APMC Act so as to preclude the Centre from tinkering with the Minimum Support Price (MSP) i.e. they wanted the states to have the last say in setting up MSP .

Thus, this amplifies the double standards of the Congress which actually wanted to enact the much needed reforms in the agricultural sector but is opposing it since it never had the  will power to bring in effective reforms in the farm sector enabling the grassroot farmers to make decent profits and make farming viable. The Congress failed to enact effective and enabling legislations to reform the agriculture sector as a huge politically connected mafia of middlemen between the farmers and consumers made huge amount of profit while the farmers got pittance from it.

PM Modi should stand his ground and not buckle under pressure of forces inimical to India and the political vultures who want a repeal of  one of the finest pieces of legislative reforms to enliven the agricultural sector of India which would help double the farmers present income and also go a long way in ensuring food sufficiency for our nation.
