The top agency officials have stated that the threat by Al-Qaeda regarding suicide assaults in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat to “battle for the honour of the Prophet” is being investigated “seriously.”

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat have issued alerts to boost vigilance at specific spots including airports, metro stations, and market areas, according to sources familiar with the situation.

“Security staff have been advised to report any suspicious behaviour to the appropriate department as soon as possible,” the agency noted.

Al-Qaeda said in a threat letter dated June 6 that it would carry out suicide strikes in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat to “battle for the Prophet’s honour.” The threat came after the uproar that occurred when a few Bhartiya Janata Party politicians made statements about the Prophet Muhammad.

“We will assassinate anyone who insults our Prophet, and we will bind explosives to our bodies and the bodies of our children in order to wipe out the ranks of those who dare to defame our Prophet… In Delhi, Bombay, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat, the saffron terrorists must now await their fate ” a threat letter from Al-Qaeda stated.

Several countries, including Malaysia, Kuwait, and Pakistan, have recently condemned recent insults regarding Prophet Muhammad made by a few BJP leaders. While Nupur Sharma made a contentious remark during a television debate, Naveen Jindal, another leader, made a provocative remark on Twitter.

Meanwhile, India has emphasised that the views expressed are those of a few fringe individuals and do not reflect the views of the Indian government. The country also “categorically rejected” a statement from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) calling India’s actions “unwarranted and narrow-minded.”

Furthermore, the BJP has suspended spokeswoman Nupur Sharma and fired media in-charge, Naveen Jindal, as a result of the inflammatory remarks, and has published a statement emphasising its intolerance for disrespecting religious figures.
