I listened to the entire budget speech yesterday. Barely one hour after the budget, Rahul Gandhi made a tweet saying that the Budget is a zero sum budget having nothing for salaried class, middle class, the poor and deprived, youth, farmers and MSMEs.

All of us must have seen college loafers passing lewd, illogical and irrational comments on girls while sipping tea or smoking in college canteens.

I argue that the above comment is extremely childish, immature and a college loafer style comment. Lets analyze.

Congress is the largest opposition party today. As the opposition, it must constructively criticize the Govt. – that is its right and duty as well.

What should he have done in a better manner?

  1. He should not have reacted so fast within 1 hour as it takes time to understand and analyze the budget.
  2. After taking time and analyzing the budget, he should have tried to explain why the budget is against farmers, youth etc. The criticism should have been backed by solid facts. People would have then trusted the Congress leadership more. Trust gets built or destroyed step by step, inch by inch.
  3. It would have been still better, if the criticism would have been backed by suggestions on how the budget could have been better.

Had the above steps been followed, I as a normal voter would have gotten the impression that Congress leadership is a matured opposition party, not a college loafer type opposition.

Mind you, If you don’t prove yourself to be a good opposition, India will never get you to the ruling position ever in future.

Days are gone when Gandhis ruled the nation like monarchs. After 1990s, India has became a democracy in true sense. We now have an alternative who is promising to be better in Governing than Congress. Hence, it is high time that Congress leadership accepts this fact with humility, introspects and improves itself.

Lets understand the possible outcome of such kind of comments:

  1. People will stop giving value to statements from Congress.
  2.  Since your top leader is behaving in this manner, people will get the impression that the entire Congress leadership possesses College loafer Intelligence.
  3. Our Nation would stand to lose the most. In scenarios where the ruling govt does something really wrong, your words wont be trusted.

Hence, please STEP UP or STEP OUT.
