Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of helping the British during the time when the entire nation was fighting the British Wednesday.
On the second day of the Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) in Madhya Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi delivered these words to a sizable crowd of tribal people in the Khandwa area.
The former Congress President said that the RSS helped the British who hanged two tribal independence warriors, Tantya Mama and Birsa Munda, without mentioning any specific right-wing figures.
He claimed that these courageous tribal chiefs were hanged for resisting British control and defending their communities and country.
Speaking to the crowd in Khandwa, Tantya Mama’s birthplace, Rahul Gandhi said, “Tantya Mama, for his character, bravery, tenacity, and fearlessness, is why I am here today. You know that the British executed Tantya Mama and Birsa Munda by hanging them, and you are also aware that the RSS backed the British.”
Interestingly, the claim made by Rahul Gandhi is highly misleading and can be said that he again did the same blunder he often does. The RSS and the Sangh were not even existed when the British hung the revolutionary leaders Tantya Mama and Birsa Munda.
Tantya Mama was hanged by the British in 1889, while Birsa Munde received a death sentence in 1900. But the RSS was founded 36 years after Mama’s passing. Dr. KB Hegdewar founded the RSS on September 27, 1925, in an effort to unite Hindus under one organization after getting frustrated with Congress over its ineffective strategy to combat the Muslim League’s radicalization of Muslims.
In actuality, Tantya Mama was hanged by the British in 1889 for his revolutionary activities aimed at releasing India from the control of the Crown. Dr. Hegdewar, the founder of the RSS, was born in the same year. .
RSS didn’t exist until 1925, which was 25 years after Munde’s passing.
Given that RSS did not exist when Tantya Mama and Birsa Munde were hanged by the British, Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that they were working together with the British at the time was false.
