An open letter to Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Cabinet Minister for Education and Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development about India’s maths education.

Namaskar Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe

I humbly request your help so I might be of service to India. My goal is to help you deliver change in maths education that will forever transform both India’s nationalist spirit and economy.

More than 6000 Indians have signed a petition calling on you to implement the unique Bharatiya Maths curriculum I have developed over the past 37 years. The petition page is at www.j.mp/TeachIndianMaths CLICK HERE

Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe you can fix this problem.

✔ CHINA’S 5-year-olds count to 94
✘ INDIA’S 6-year-olds count to 31

✔ CHINA counts the correct base 10 way.
✘ INDIA counts the confusing British way.

✔ CHINA #1 in patents and #1 in maths
✘ INDIA #10 in patents and #73 in maths

My research may bring immense joy, prosperity and progress to India. All I ask is Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe put Podometic to the test and see how it compares to the way British ‘Macaulay Maths’ has been taught for centuries.

Namaste Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal & Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe. India’s kids love Bharatiya Maths. So teach it!

NATIONAL PRIDE
Based on detailed analysis, my research concludes five Sanskrit ślokas containing 18 laws of maths from Brahmagupta’s Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta are worth more than the entire elementary mathematics education literature of the British Empire. Many mysteries such as why –1 × –1 = +1 and why 0⁰ = 1 when 0¹ = 0 can now be explained without laws in ways Āryabhaṭa, Bhāskara and Brahmagupta might have wished Bharat’s descendants to be taught. In the NEP, it is my strong recommendation India teach Bharatiya Maths NOT British Maths.

If India’s children were taught GANITA (maths) and BIJA-GANITA (algebra) in primary classes, they could barrack for the Indian team instead of the English team. With pride comes a competitive spirit and as cricket shows, a desire to perform and be a winner!

ECONOMIC GROWTH
Some 2000 years ago India led the world in mathematics and had the largest share of GDP in the world. However, Bharat’s original zero concept never made it to the modern world. For this research, I refer to my INTACH lecture given in New Delhi below

The Death Of Arithmetic: How Indian Eyes Make Maths Education Simpler & Faster | Jonathan J Crabtree

Maths is a foundation upon which progress in Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine is built. The better a nation’s maths the better its economy and ability to defend itself. A study* stated two important facts:

1) Maths scores have the largest impact on economic growth
2) A 1% increase in PISA scores leads to GDP growth of 0.3%

As you know, India ranked 73rd out of 74 countries in a PISA maths survey. With the revised Bharatiya Maths curriculum I call podometic (instead of arithmetic), I expect India’s PISA score to rise at least 20% over the next decade, which is the equivalent of a 6% boost to GDP.

I look forward to a response to my offer to help you and your team improve your primary level maths curriculum at no cost.

Thank you.
