Seen this depiction of Maa yet? Maa Durga as a migrant worker ? And this is supposed to be art! However, Durga Puja is not meant to be an arts exhibition and all of this so-called creativity should not be experimented where it is not meant to be!
Any religious festival should be celebrated per the rituals associated with that festival. The festival loses its essence if it is merely turned into a fest. Durga Puja is not a fest nor should it be turned into one. Those interested in reducing it to a cultural event should have other events and days to choose from and not destroy the very sanctity of the Navratri days.
No, Maa Durga shouldn’t be depicted as a migrant worker or a refugee; her depiction should be in all her glory. Murti design is prescribed in our ancient texts – from dimensions, postures to colours everything should be per the recommendation. The arms of Maa Durga symbolize that she protects her children from all directions. Durga Maa without her ornaments and armaments is no Durga Maa.
