In a spirited ‘back to the roots’ call, SC Justice S Abdul Nazeer says surer yet arduous way to free administration of justice in India from colonial psyche is to study the legal norms developed by great personalities like Manu, Kautilya and Brihaspati.

In criminal trials (in ancient India), accused could not be punished unless guilt was proved according to law and in civil cases, the trial consisted of four stages like any modern trial – plaint, reply, hearing and decree: S Abdul Nazeer J.: as quoted by Bar and Bench.

‘I am convinced that the colonised legal system is not fit for India & its people. It’s the time now we have an Indianised legal system that is rooted in Indian social & cultural ethos,’ said Hon’ble Sri Justice S. Abdul Nazeer.
