Praveen Nettaru, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha, was killed by unidentified assailants on July 26. According to reports, the murderers arrived on a bike in the late evening in Bellari, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, and attacked Nettaru with sharp weapons. When the attack took place, Nettaru, who owned a poultry firm was heading back to his house. After killing Nettaru, murderers fled the scene. Despite being brought to the hospital, Nettaru was not able to be saved.
Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, offered his sincere sympathies to the family of Nettaru and promised that justice will be served. “The cruel killing of our party activist Praveen Nettaru from Dakshina Kannada district is condemnable,” he wrote in a tweet in Kannada. The cause of Nettaru’s death remains unknown. However, a report in Manorama Online stated that witnesses claimed the attackers rode a bike with a registration number from Kerala. The incident took place in an area not far from the Kerala border. Additionally, Times Now Navbharat stated that the attackers were riding a bike from Kerala.
The matter has been reported to the Karnataka Police, and an investigation is in progress. According to reports, Nettaru’s murder may have been motivated by two previous events, including the murder of a Muslim man and a dispute involving a mosque. To keep the area safe and orderly, substantial police units have been stationed there.
