Finally, a committee has been constituted by the central government to resolve all the issues related to farmers including MSP. Three names were sought from the United Kisan Morcha for the committee to be formed for MSP, but the government did not get those names. The Agriculture Ministry said that a committee has been constituted to promote zero budget based agriculture, change cropping pattern and make minimum support price more effective and transparent.

After the end of the Kisan Andolan, the central government had asked for three names from the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha for the committee to be formed for the MSP, but the government did not get those names. After a long wait, the central government has constituted a committee for MSP. There are 16 people in this committee. Although 3 names can still be added to it. Former Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal has been made the chairman of this committee. Its notification has been issued by the government.

The committee has been constituted to promote zero budget based farming, change crop pattern keeping in mind the changing requirements of the country, make MSP more effective and transparent. The committee consists of representatives of central and state governments, farmers, agricultural scientists and agricultural economists.

This committee will suggest to make the system of getting MSP more effective for the farmers of the country. This committee will work in the direction to ensure higher prices for their produce to the farmers by taking advantage of the domestic and export opportunities as per the changing requirements of the country. This committee will see how to change the cropping pattern according to the changing needs of the country.

The chairman of this committee is Sanjay Aggarwal, who has been the former Agriculture Secretary. Member NITI Aayog Agriculture is Ramesh Chand. Dr. CSC Shekhar and Dr. Sukhpal Singh are agricultural economists. Bharat Bhushan Tyagi is included as a nationally award winning farmer. Representatives of farmers will be added when names of three members from United Kisan Morcha come up. At the same time, the names of Gunwant Patil, Krishnaveer Chaudhary, Pramod Kumar Chaudhary, Gunee Prakash, Syed Pasha Patel are included from other farmer organizations.

  • Apart from these, secretaries of Department of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Department of Food and Public Distribution, and Ministry of Cooperation and Textiles have been included in the committee ex-officio. Agriculture commissioners of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha will also participate ex-officio.
