As members of the Telangana State Southern Electricity Distribution Company Limited Vigilance Wing conducted raids in response to reports of alleged power theft, there was a little increase in tension at the Al Jubail settlement Chandrayangutta in the Old City.

On Sunday afternoon, investigators from the power department’s vigilance section who were tasked with looking for power theft swarmed on the homes. The workers in Al Jubail community Chandrayangutta started looking through the homes for signs of electricity theft and pilferage.

Local AIMIM party leaders in Chandrayangutta assembled at the scene to oppose the action of the power department vigilance teams after learning of the raids by the vigilance department teams.

Mohd Moazam Khan, MLA for Bahadurpura in the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, arrived to the scene and spoke with the security guards. He claimed that officials were harassing regular people under the guise of electricity theft.

When the Chandrayangutta police arrived, they requested the addition of extra officers to help quell any unrest. Following a protest by the locals, the electricity department representatives left the area.
