All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remaining part of the Winter Session after he threw the rule book at the chair, as it is said. This unfortunate incident occurred during the passage of The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021, also the electoral reforms bill in the Upper House, following which Derek O’Brien staged a walkout angrily.

To everyone’s amusement, Rajya Sabha or the Upper House of the Parliament, boasts of being an intellectual place having meaningful and informative debates and serious discussions. On contrary to it, the TMC MP took to the microblogging platform, Twitter to announce the news of his suspension as some sort of achievement, given his unbecoming behavior.

However, in the Parliament today, The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021, was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday after it was passed in Lok Sabha on Monday. The bill proposes to link electoral roll data with the Aadhaar ecosystem and thus influx a reform in the electoral system. The bill as usual was opposed by Opposition parties, despite the reforms and loopholes the bill aims to unplug in the system.
