Humans are a very funny and strange species. They exaggerate the positive and good while completely abandoning what ‘they or the mainstream media thinks’ is detrimental to their existence.
The revolution of veganism is taking the entire world by storm.
Most countries in the world are known to have a rich dairy culture and that’s something to be proud about, really! The presence of a dairy culture in a country is a reflection of the abundance of its basic resources that define the health of its people. Let’s keep aside the failure of a few from the modern dairy industry to protect cows in India, for a bit.
We are the land of Sri Krishna who always pleased us with his “leelas”. In Bharatiya Puranas and Itihasa, the relation between Krishna and Cows has always been considered as an inseparable divine entity. If there is no bull then there will be no barley grains nor sesame seeds and twigs, essential ingredients needed for the hawan (fire ceremony known as “yajna”). If there are no cows then where will the ghee, milk come from which are needed for the sacred purifying ritual? The Holy Scriptures didn’t pronounce the name of the Brahmans first but of the Cows. Such is the holiness and importance of Milk and Ghee in the diet of an average Bharatiya.
The cow is a perfect mother. She has four teats: one for her calf, one for guests including birds and animals, one for use in rituals and one for her master. The milk is automatically divided into four equal portions; everyone is fed.
So why do we need milk and ghee in our diet?
Cow Milk or “Godugdha” is a perfectly suited food to maintaining human life and the best milk after the mother’s breast milk. It is “Rasayana” like Ayurveda says; it helps you raise the bar of health from average to better and from better towards the positive. Milk, Curd and Ghee are essential entities in an Indian diet. They rejuvenate and nourish our bodies, delay ageing, build up body tissues, protect our joints and are the very reason we are a country where our grandmothers and grandfathers don’t fail to stun us with their pliant and supple bodies even in their eighties and nineties.
Nothing, and by that we mean nothing comes close to Cow milk for a substitute.
Cows are holier than anything to us. For us, nurturing the cow is like bringing up our own child and yet she is the mother!
She foresees the illness of a member of the family and feeds on the precise medicinal herbs while she grazes, which in turn helps her secrete the medicine for the illness through her milk. Such is the glory of Gomata!
In reality, the cow progeny was always treated as the main resource and backbone of Indian agriculture, health, medicine and prosperity in Indian life handed over gloriously civilization-after-civilization.
In the praise and salutation to Gita it is said:
सर्वोपनिषदो गावो दोग्धा गोपालनन्दनः पार्थ वत्स सुधीर्भोक्ता दुग्धं गीतामृतं महत ||
Sarvoponishada Gavo Dogdha Gopalanandana Partha Vatsa Sudhirbhokta Dugdham Gitamritam Mahat ||
The Upanishads are cows, Bhagwaan Gopalanandana is the cow milkers, Partha-Arjuna is the calf, the wise scholars are the drinkers of that milk and Geeta is that milk, the nectar of life.
If we Hindus and Sanatanis worship & sing praises for our beloved Gomata, how can we ignore the importance of protecting cows during any of our festivals? Our festivals truly begin after the first meal is fed to the cows after which the entire family eats. Such a union of cows with individual and society too has manifested in the life of Shri Krishna.
To strengthen the Rishi-Krishi tradition of Bharat, Krishna established the best socio- economic system, varnashrama-dharma, for the spiritual and material progress of all living beings as per their ability (guna) and aspiration (karma). Protected cows are a major component of this system; bulls and oxen plough the fields, and cows give milk.
Don’t lecture us on cow protection please !!
If there’s something you’d like to do, embrace the teachings of Sanatan Dharma and taste the nectar of Veda, Upanishad & The Geeta.
That way, the Kurukshetra will change “India that is Bharat” to a “Hindu Rashtra Bharat”. Well, the winds of change have already begun to blow!
Jai Shri Krishna!
